The Brenta Dolomites Via Ferratas: The Bocchette Traverse is one of the most iconic self-guided via ferrata hut-to-hut adventures in the Alps. This Brenta Dolomites self-guided tour links a network of historic via ferratas, including the famous Via delle Bocchette, through the remote and incredibly rugged Brenta Group of the Dolomites. This region of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its vertical limestone walls and some of the most dramatic views in the Dolomites. The Brenta Group is one of the last corners of the Dolomites where you can completely leave the tourist crowds behind for multiple consecutive days.

This is an adventurous and very alpine route, where you’ll traverse narrow rock ledges and scale exposed ladders as you criss-cross through extreme alpine terrain. Evenings are spent in authentic mountain huts of the Brenta Dolomites, relaxing over hearty Italian meals and sharing the day’s stories. This is an authentic tour that returns to the same town you start in.

Most sections of via ferrata on this route are rated B on the Schall Scale, so the technical “climbing” is moderate; the real challenge comes from the rugged terrain, exposure and  extensive scree fields.  and mandatory glacier crossings. At least one glacier crossing is required: crampons are absolutely mandatory (micro-spikes are not sufficient) and an ice axe, especially earlier in the season, is strongly recommended. The crevasses on this glacier are typically exposed during the season we offer the tour, so it is not necessary to rope up on the glacier.

This self-guided via ferrata is ideal for experienced mountaineers with extensive experience in alpine terrain, comfort with exposure and some rock climbing experience, who are looking for a serious via ferrata hut to hut in the Brenta Group. Available add-ons are a private or public Airport-to-Airport Package and an optional rest day. As on our other tours, we handle the complex logistics and support you with a custom eGuidebook and offline navigation app, so you feel well prepared and can focus fully on the adventure.
